Tenant Protection Act of 2019, aka California Rent Control Bill (AB 1482)

The Tenant Protection Act of 2019, aka California Rent Control Bill (AB 1482) went into effect on 1/1/2020 and puts in place rent caps, plus a just cause eviction provision (with relocation assistance for tenants required in some cases). All rentals in California, including condos, townhomes, duplexes, triplexes, 4plexes and bigger fall under the bill, but some rental units are exempt from the rent caps and just cause eviction provision if they meet certain requirements and the tenants are given the appropriate bill-mandated language.
