Dramatic upcoming legislation for California landlords and tenants
All California landlords and tenants need to know about this upcoming legislation, including Assembly Bill 1436(AB 1436) related to nonpayment of rent during the COVID-19 pandemic. Do you have tenants who can’t pay rent due to the pandemic? This bill will prevent evictions of tenants who can’t pay due to coronavurus and will also limit being able to go after the residents for nonpayment of rent. Additionally we touch on the important, upcoming deadlines for Assembly Bill 1482 (AB 1482). If California landlords miss this deadline for AB 1482 they can lose their AB 1482 exemptions if they have them now. Two other California laws for landlords that we cover include the Rental Affordability Act (also known as Rent Control 2.0) and the California Schools and Local Communities Funding Act, which will change Prop 13 for commercial and industrial property owners. It’s not easy being a landlord in California so make sure you’re surrounded by professionals who can help!
